Research Areas and Projects

At the Department of Old Testament Studies and Biblical Archeology at the Protestant Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna, we cover the entire breadth of Old Testament Studies in teaching. However, our academic staff enjoys their own particular research emphases and specializations. Currently, their main research areas include poetical books (Wisdom, Psalms, Lamentations, Song of Songs), priestly literature, and the anthropology of the Old Testament.

Of special note is the Wiener Alttestamentliche Studien (WAS), a series of monographs and anthologies published between 1999 and 2010 by Prof. James Loader and other members of the department. At the moment no further issues are planned.
